MAT095 Mathematics in Action I

(Equivalent to First Year Institute USM095) This course develops basic arthmetic and geometric concepts and skills in the areas of whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percents, and signed numbers in the setting of algebra. Algebraic topics include: combining like terms, polynomial multiplication, solving linear equations. An emphasis is placed on problem-solving skills, graphing, and interpretation of tables and graphs, incorporating the use of the calculator. A graphing calculator will be required. Admission to the course is based on placement exam scores.
